Herbivores, Carnivores, and Omnivores, Oh My!: What Teeth Can Tell Us About What We Eat

What can happen to our teeth and gums if we don’t take care of them?

A healthy tooth and gums means having no cavities (holes) in your teeth and gums that are firm, not squishy.

Tooth decay starts when small cavities begin to form in the enamel (the outer part of a tooth), and your gums become darker and squishy.

Tooth decay can make the rest of your body feel worse when your cavities become bigger, plaque (a hard sticky film) grows on your teeth, and your gums are squishy and start to bleed.

Tooth decay can lead to tooth loss and other serious health problems if you do not see a dentist to help treat your pain.
